STEVE HUMBLE
Humble's practice spans over four decades, and has incorporated text, sound, installation, sculpture, and performance, whilst focusing centrally and continually on both drawing and painting. Interest lies in art as a means of social, cultural, and economic exchange. Ideas of place and memory play an important role in the work, which often utilises the constructs of 'the body' and 'the landscape' as sites for visual storytelling - drawing on lived experience, imagined events, and social and family history, as narrative sources. Using a variety of materials and mixed-media, the work inhabits the half-lit and liminal territory, somewhere between dreaming and wakefulness. The aim is to allow for some degree of ambiguity, which may create fresh possibilities of reading with each subjective encounter.
